Why a wood kiln, when gas is easier

A gas kiln fires the same every time, which is the point of it and the problem with it. Wood ash lands on the pots and melts into the glaze, and where the flame licks a shelf the celadon goes deeper; two firings are two different colours. We lose a few pieces a firing to that. We keep the kiln for the ones it gives us.
